Military Bicycle Couriers
This is totally wild. I was reading about bicycle infantry today and found out about the origin of the bicycle messenger. Apparently, the British army first starting using bicycle courier services in 1881 to transport top secret military documents. Can you believe that?!
Apparently bicycles were perfect because they were fast and easy to repair. I imagine the Pony Express crew needed more time to rest between runs. hee haw.
Thus the beloved bicycle messenger joins the world stage …
And then what happens? They started piling down couriers with heavy weapons! They even made foldable bicycles in WWII so that the allied troops could parachute across enemy lines with reliable transportation.
Does anyone know if they’re are any modern militaries currently using bicycles? I’d put my money on the French Foreign Legion.

Hummer Expands, Swallows Bicycle Lanes
Hummer is considering the Nashville suburbs for their new HQ. Nissan and GM have already proven that the area is welcoming to motor companies, and after recently gaining the distinction of fourth fattest state, Tennessee might seem like the perfect fit for an oversized car maker.
Should we go ahead and widen our traffic lanes to prepare, and do away with those ‘economy’ sized parking spaces? Or is Hummer going to surprise us and come up with something new?
Maybe something smart, half the size, all weather, all terrain, and full of environmentally friendly smiles … like a bicycle rack.

Hummer rethinks sport utility.
